Russian freight traffic over North-South corridor may double by 2030

Development of the corridor in question depends at present to a decisive degree on interaction of Russia with the Republic of Azerbaijan and relations of our countries with Iran, First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov noted

BAKU, October 28. /TASS/. The Russian freight traffic over the North-South corridor may grow almost twofold by 2030, First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov said on Friday.

"Development of the corridor in question depends at present to a decisive degree on interaction of Russia with the Republic of Azerbaijan and relations of our countries with Iran. We indeed expect the volume of Russian goods [transported] along the North-South corridor over all branches will grow almost twofold - from 17 [mln] at present to 30 mln metric tons," the official said.

"At the same time, we primarily see main prospects, which will take more than a half of incremental growth, in the Western route passing through Azerbaijan," Belousov added.
