NEW YORK, June 8. /TASS/. IBM, which had previously suspended its work in Russia, began to wind-down its activities in the country. The relevant statement by the head of the corporation, Arvind Krishna, was published on the website of one of the world's largest manufacturers of hardware and software on Tuesday.
In early March, the head of IBM announced the suspension of all business in Russia amid the events in Ukraine. According to Krishna, this decision was made so that the company "could evaluate longer-term options while continuing to pay and provide for our employees in Russia."
"As the consequences of the war continue to mount and uncertainty about its long-term ramifications grows, we have now made the decision to carry out an orderly wind-down of IBM’s business in Russia," the head of the company said in Tuesday.
According to him, "this process will commence today and result in the separation of our local workforce." Krishna stressed that the company's management considers this move as both right and necessary.
On February 24, Putin announced that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. After that the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other states announced that they would impose sanctions against Russian legal entities and individuals. They also intensified supplies of weapons to Kiev.
