Serbian president expects to discuss gas purchases with Putin on May 25-26

Vucic had come to terms with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about storing Serbian gas in Hungarian gas storage facilities

BELGRADE, May 22. /TASS/. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told TV Pink on Saturday that he expected to discuss Russian gas supplies to his country with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 25-26.

"Three aspects are important for us. The volume is of utmost importance, the price comes second, reliability of supplies - where no problems have emerged so far - would be number three. The first two aspects are the key ones," he said, expressing hope that "the phone conversation with the Russian president will be held on Wednesday or Thursday (May 26 or 26)."

Vucic said he had come to terms with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about storing Serbian gas in Hungarian gas storage facilities. "It is important that the president of Hungary allowed us to store between 300 and 500 million cubic meters of gas," the Serbian leader said.

Vucic reiterated that Serbia was beginning to negotiate a new long-term gas contract with Gazprom. In his words, the economy of Serbia is fully dependant on Russian gas, and Belgrade is hoping to negotiate "a good price" during the forthcoming talks with Moscow. He expects the future price of the Russian gas to be around $450-$619 per 1,000 cubic meters. The current Russian-Serbian gas agreement expires on May 31.

Since January 1, Gazprom has been using a new route to pump gas to Serbia - via the Turk Stream pipeline and further on across Turkey and Bulgaria.
