MOSCOW, March 17. /TASS/. The annual portfolio of contracts for arms exports may grow from $13.7 to $17 billion after the end of the Ukraine operation, the Center for Analysis of Global Arms Trade (TsAMTO) estimated.
"TsAMTO estimates that in four years after the end of the special military operation the Russian military exports may reach $17-19 a year and maybe more. The forecast considers that all Russian weapons have been tested in battle and are adapted to the realities of modern highly technological war, have been modified and upgraded according to real combat experience of fighting modern arms supplied to Ukraine," it said.
The center estimated the current arms export portfolio at $13.75 billion and it tends to grow. In February, Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov said the total portfolio of Rosboronexport exceeded $60 billion.
TsAMTO estimated the global arms trade to be the biggest in 2024 after the end of the Cold War. It comprised $111.615 billion by the exchange rate at the day of contract signing. The total arms trade comprised $82.942 billion in 2021, $106.185 billion in 2022 and $96.889 billion in 2023, the center estimated.
It attributed the current growth to the conflict in Ukraine, where Soviet-made arms were exhausted and the West launched large-scale purchases of expensive modern arms for Ukraine.
