IT army of 250,000 operated against Russia at peak of cyberattacks — Rostelecom Solar

Oleg Slepov noted that most of those attacks were used as a "smoke screen" to camouflage targeted strikes carried out by professional groups

ASHGABAT, November 11. /TASS/. When cyberattacks against Russia, underway since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, peaked, a whole 250,000-strong army of IT specialists was involved in them, the chief of the department for international development at Rostelecom Solar (a national provider of cybersecurity services) Oleg Slepov said on Friday.

"I would like to briefly dwell on the experience that we gained during the last months of the confrontation. It all began with massive DDoS attacks on Russian information resources. In intensity, these attacks surpassed all that had been observed before February 24. All available global resources of the darknet were scrambled. When the campaign peaked, an IT army of more than 250,000 was operating against Russia. Each day up to 50 targets on the territory of Russia were set for that army to attack," he told the Turkmentel-2022 conference.

Slepov noted that most of those attacks were used as a "smoke screen" to camouflage targeted strikes carried out by professional groups.

The Turkmentel-2022 conference was held in Ashgabat on November 10-11. It focused on the development of information and communication technologies as a key factor in the digitalization of the Turkmenistan socio-economic sphere. It brought together participants from Azerbaijan, China, Russia, Turkmenistan, Finland and other countries.
