Russia’s Pacific Fleet task force makes port call in Vietnam

The visit will last until April 21

MOSCOW, April 16. /TASS/. A task force of Russia’s Pacific Fleet on Tuesday made a port call in Vietnam’s Cam Ranh, where Russian sailors will meet with representatives of the Vietnamese Navy, Fleet Spokesman Capt. 2nd Rank Nikolai Voskresensky told reporters.

The visit will last until April 21. "Today the Pacific Fleet’s task force consisting of large anti-submarine warfare ships Admiral Vinogradov and Admiral Tributs, and medium-sized sea tanker Irkut docked at Vietnam’s Cam Ranh port for an unofficial visit," the spokesman said.

During the visit, the sailors are scheduled to meet with representatives of the command of Vietnam’s 4th naval region and the command of Vietnam’s fleet and take part in a wreath laying ceremony at the Cam Ranh memorial," he noted.

The group of three warships of Russia’s Pacific Fleet left Vladivostok on April 1 and made a port call in Manila. The goal of this long voyage is to demonstrate St. Andrew’s flag in the Asia-Pacific Region and enhance naval cooperation with regional states. The naval task force will take part in Russian-Chinese joint drills Naval Interaction-2019.

The Cam Ranh memorial, set up in honor of Soviet, Russian and Vietnamese servicemen and civilians, who sacrificed their lives for peace in the region, was unveiled in 2009 at the site of a former pillar on the territory of the Pacific Fleet’s military airfield.
