DAMASCUS, November 20. /TASS/. Syrian servicemen have destroyed ammunition found by sappers on the roads after the territory was liberated from militants, chief of the 166th sapper division Ali Suleiman told reporters on Tuesday.
"There are many self-made mines here, which terrorists set up on the roads and used against Syrian soldiers. Most of those mines detonated from afar <...> Some bombs used by militants were made from a simple water pipe stuffed with explosives and shrapnels. Most of those self-made explosive devices were found by Syrian sappers on the roads after the territory was liberated from militants," Suleiman said.
Explosive devices found on the outskirts of Damascus are brought to a training range at a distance from the city.
"Some of them we can use, like bullets, so we hand those to our army. The rest of devices and mines are used to demolish the buildings destroyed by the war and not subject to restoration. We also destroy underground tunnels that terrorists used. The most dangerous mines and bombs are destroyed at our training range," he added.
