Lithuania hosts international exercises involving about 30 German military helicopters

The purpose of the exercise is to rehearse actions within NATO’s collective defense plans

VILNIUS, May 3. /TASS/. International NATO exercises with the participation of a group of German helicopters are taking place in Lithuania, the Baltic republic's army command said.

"About 30 German military helicopters will take part in the Griffin Lightning exercise, flying at the lowest altitude possible," the statement noted. Tiger attack helicopters, NH90 medium-sized multi-role helicopters, CH-53 heavy transport aircraft, and EC135 light utility helicopters — totaling approximately 30 — will be redeployed to Lithuania for the maneuvers. The command warned that these combat aircraft will operate at an low altitude down to 150 meters, both day and night while carrying out training missions. The purpose of the exercise is to rehearse actions within NATO’s collective defense plans. The maneuvers will run until May 23.
