Denmark to block any US attempts to bribe Greenlanders — parliamentarian

Rasmus Jarlov reiterated that Denmark would not cede Greenland

STOCKHOLM, March 24. /TASS/. Denmark will not change its stance on Greenland and will block any attempts to persuade Greenlanders through bribery, Chairman of the Danish Parliament’s Defense Committee Rasmus Jarlov said.

"Facts that the American government needs to understand: Greenland has been under the Danish crown since 1380. It is a fully integrated part of Denmark and the Greenlanders are citizens of Denmark. Only 6% of people in Greenland would prefer being American rather than Danish," wrote on his X page.

Jarlov said that "the only political party that said they trust [US President] Donald Trump got 1% and no seats in the Greenlandic parliament in the election a few weeks ago. Not a single member of the Greenlandic parliament wants to become American. All of them find it intimidating and threatening that the US does not respect that 'no' means 'no'."

"The only threat to Greenland is the US," he said.

The parliamentarian reiterated that Denmark would not cede Greenland.

"Denmark will not sell Greenland. Denmark will not accept and will block any attempts of bribing the Greenlanders. Denmark will not change its position regardless of the threats from the US," he concluded.

On March 4, Trump said he would approve the decision of the people of Greenland on joining the United States. He had repeatedly said that Greenland should become part of the United States. He threatened to impose high trade duties on Denmark if it did not relinquish the island. Even during his first term, Trump offered to purchase Greenland. Denmark and Greenland rejected the idea.

On March 23, the White House said that a US delegation, which will include the wife of US vice president Usha Vance, will visit Greenland on March 27-29.
