Over 20 Palestinians dead in several hours of Israeli bombing of Gaza — TV

The situation in the Middle East worsened sharply after armed Hamas supporters from the Gaza Strip had entered Israel on October 7, 2023, and killed and took hostage residents of the border settlements

CAIRO, March 24. /TASS/. Over 20 Palestinians were killed in bombing of the Gaza Strip by Israel, which resumed attacks on the enclave in the early hours, Al Jazeera TV channel reported.

According to medical workers, "in the several hours of constant shelling of the sector, at least 21 people were killed." A dire situation has developed in the Tell es-Sultan area of Rafah in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. A representative of the city administration said Tell es-Sultan, where thousands of Arab families live, is essentially under siege, with no electricity or water. Israel is not ceasing bombing this area. The administration said that its employees for more than a day have not been able to contact either the ambulance crews or the rescue teams that had gone to Tell es-Sultan to provide necessary assistance to local residents.

The situation in the Middle East worsened sharply after armed Hamas supporters from the Gaza Strip had entered Israel on October 7, 2023, and killed and took hostage residents of the border settlements. In response, Israel launched a military operation in the enclave with the aim of destroying the military and political structures of Hamas and rescuing all the abductees.

On March 18, Israel resumed fighting in Gaza with intensive strikes on the enclave, breaking the ceasefire agreement established in January. Israel explained this by Hamas' refusal to accept the proposals put forward at the talks by mediators and special US envoy Steven Witkoff, stating that the goal of the operation is to free all hostages. The radicals blamed Israel and the United States for the resumption of hostilities.
