US now more interested in Ukraine settlement than NHL, KHL games — White House

The Kremlin press service reported earlier that Trump, in a telephone conversation, supported Putin's initiative to arrange hockey matches in the United States and Russia

WASHINGTON, March 19. /TASS/. The Washington administration is now more interested in settling the conflict in Ukraine than in organizing matches between Russian and American players of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL), White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a regular press briefing, commenting on the outcomes of the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.

"When it comes to the topic of hockey, it did come up," she said while talking about the leaders’ talk. "However, we're more interested in securing a peace deal than scheduling hockey games right now," Leavitt added.

The Kremlin press service reported earlier that Trump, in a telephone conversation, supported Putin's initiative to arrange hockey matches in the United States and Russia between the two countries' players competing in the KHL and the NHL.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on March 18, during which they discussed a 30-day ceasefire, conditions for preventing escalation and a number of international topics. The Russian leader agreed with the US head of state’s proposal on the mutual refusal of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine from strikes on energy infrastructure facilities.
