TEL AVIV, March 18. /TASS/. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas discussed the resumption of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, the top diplomat reported.
"[I] updated EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas on Israel's operation against Hamas in Gaza. Israel agreed to US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's proposals to extend the temporary ceasefire, which Hamas twice rejected. Without the release of our hostages, Israel has no alternative but resuming military operations," he wrote on his X page.
At the same time, the foreign minister emphasized that Israel was "only targeting terror targets and is doing its utmost to minimize civilian casualties." "We will not compromise on our war objectives!" the top diplomat concluded.
On March 18, the Israel Defense Forces reported large-scale attacks on Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office explained the move by Hamas' rejection of proposals made during talks with mediators and US special envoy Steve Witkoff. The Israeli side noted that the goal of the attacks on Gaza was to free all hostages.
The radicals, in turn, blamed Israel and the US for the resumption of hostilities. According to their version, Hamas "abided by the ceasefire agreement until the last moment.".
