MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. The visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Tehran aims to bolster Russian-Iranian relations, which remain unaffected by external pressures, said Kazem Jalali, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic in Moscow.
"The visit of the Russian foreign minister to Tehran continues the course of enhancing cooperation between the two nations and expanding high-level dialogue on a wide range of bilateral issues, as well as regional and global events. This dialogue is more crucial than ever," Jalali wrote on his page on the social network X.
He stated that relations between the two nations were solidified by a January 17 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed at the Kremlin by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian. The agreement "does not allow any ordinary events to affect our relations," the Iranian ambassador believes.
According to Jalali, Russian-Iranian relations "are historical, independent of external factors, based on national interests and aimed at peace and development."
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on February 22 confirmed that Lavrov would visit Tehran soon. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov is scheduled to meet with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations, along with international and regional developments.
