Rubio says Iran is key source of instability in Middle East

He stressed that there must never be a nuclear Iran that can evade pressure

TEL AVIV, February 16. /TASS/. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called Iran the only source of instability in the Middle East.

"Behind every terrorist group, behind every act of violence, behind every destabilizing activity, behind everything that threatens peace and stability for the millions of people that call this region home is Iran," he said at a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He stressed that there must never be a nuclear Iran that can evade pressure. He also said than among other issues he had discussed with Netanyahu was the situation in Syria and Lebanon. He pledged that the United States would keep a close eye on the situation in Syria following the fall of the Bashar Assad regime to elaborate an own strategy toward Syria. As for Lebanon, he said that his country and Israel had a shared goal - a strong Lebanese state, which would be able to disarm Hezbollah.

Rubio arrived in Tel Aviv on Saturday.
