DUBAI, December 27. /TASS/. Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa is being hit by airstrikes, a Houthi source told TASS.
Powerful explosions are going off in the city, according to the person.
"Sanaa has come under attack again. Strikes are targeting the international airport and military sites in the capital and its environs," the source said, without specifying which country was carrying out the strikes.
According to the Houthi-owned Al Masirah television channel, the US and UK are behind the airstrikes. The Al Arabiya and Al Hadath television channels reported that the strikes hit production sites where the Houthis assemble weapons. There are also reports of a strike on the former headquarters of the First Armored Division and explosions near the Yemeni television office.
Following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis, also known as the Ansar Allah group, said they would strike Israeli territory and prevent ships affiliated with that country from passing through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave ended. The Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since November last year.
In response to these attacks, the US and UK announced preparations for Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Afterward, the UK and US started carrying out regular strikes on Houthi military sites in various Yemeni provinces.
