BEIRUT, December 27. /TASS/. The Shiite Hezbollah movement will refrain from a military response to Israel's violations of the ceasefire agreement that came into force on November 27, a source in the Lebanese parliament has told TASS.
"Hezbollah's leadership prefers to refrain from any steps that might disrupt coordination between the resistance forces and the Lebanese army, so no military response to Israeli violations is planned," he pointed out.
According to the source, the Shiite organization has now switched its focus to providing material assistance to the population affected by Israeli aggression and does not want to be drawn into a new confrontation, even if Israel delays the withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
"A return to military escalation is not in the interests of Hezbollah, which seeks to retain its political influence," he emphasized.
Earlier, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the Jewish state might keep its forces in southern Lebanon after January 27, 2025, when the 60-day truce agreement reached as a result of the US-French initiative expires.
The office of Prime Minister Najib Mikati called such a course of action unacceptable in a statement on Friday.
"Prime Minister Mikati conveyed Lebanon's position to all parties concerned, especially the US and France, stressing the need to put pressure on the Israeli enemy to make it stop all hostile actions and withdraw from Lebanese territory," the statement reads.
