ANKARA, November 22. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement about the successful use of a hypersonic missile with a conventional warhead in Ukraine sends a serious warning to Washington and its Euro-Atlantic partners, Deputy Chairman of Turkey’s Patriotic Party (Vatan Partisi) Hakan Topkurulu has told TASS.
"Russia’s response to US and UK missiles, which Ukraine received and used against Russia, is very important. While missiles launched by Ukraine were destroyed in midair, the Russian hypersonic missile could not be detected by Western air defense systems deployed in Ukraine. In his address, Putin clearly stated that the missile can not be intercepted at all, and that it was not fitted with a nuclear warhead this time. This sends a very serious warning to countries of the Euro-Atlantic region," he said.
"In fact, they were told that Russia will speak the language they understand, if necessary. And it can install a nuclear warhead on this missile, if necessary. At the same time, they will not be able to intercept it," Topkurulu continued.
He went on to say that Russia’s update of its nuclear doctrine and Putin’s remarks are "a serious step that will prevent World War Three."
Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a televised address to the nation on Thursday evening, announcing that in response to the West’s decision to authorize strategic-depth strikes on Russia, Moscow used its new Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile for the first time. The missile, which struck a defense production site in Dnepr (formerly Dnepropetrovsk), was fitted with a conventional warhead, but is designed to carry a nuclear charge as well.
In Putin's words, Russia is entitled to use its weapons against the military facilities of countries that allow their weapons to be used against targets in Russia. When using Oreshnik in the future, Russia will issue warnings in advance, allowing civilians to leave zones designated as dangerous, he added.
