Opposition seizes control of entire complex of Abkhazia’s government buildings

A representative of the republic's authorities told TASS that Abkhazia’s President Aslan Bzhania is absent from the building of the presidential administration

SUKHUM, November 15. /TASS/. Representatives of the opposition have managed to take control of the entire complex of government buildings in Abkhazia, including the presidential administration, the republic's Cabinet of Ministers and the parliament, a TASS correspondent reported.

The law enforcement officers who were maintaining order are leaving the buildings, the correspondent added. Meanwhile, the representatives of the opposition entered the presidential office.

A representative of the republic's authorities told TASS that Abkhazia’s President Aslan Bzhania is absent from the building of the presidential administration.

On Friday, Abkhazia’s parliament was to consider the ratification of the agreement with Russia on the implementation of investment projects by Russian legal entities on the territory of the republic. The opposition announced a protest rally and called on the residents of Abkhazia to take an active part in it, as they consider the agreement a threat to the economic sovereignty of the country.

The parliament canceled its session because the deputies could not approve its agenda. The opposition disagreed and demanded that the parliament be reconvened to consider the issue in its entirety.

Several hundred people protested in front of the parliament. They then managed to surround the entire complex of government buildings. Abkhazia's Security Council described the situation as tense.

Earlier, President Aslan Bzhania pointed out that it is inadmissible to put pressure on members of parliament. He also called on the population not to give in to provocations.
