Scholz says countries supporting Ukraine "not at war with Russia"

The common goal, according to the head of the German government, "remains to ensure that Ukraine can effectively defend itself"

BERLIN, March 15. /TASS/. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz argues that the countries supporting Ukraine "are not in a state of war with Russia."

At a joint news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Berlin, Scholz said that Germany, France and Poland were "among the biggest political, military and financial supporters of Ukraine."

"We stand closely and unwaveringly on the side of Ukraine. We have made this clear from the very beginning, and it will remain so as long as necessary," he said. "It is clear that we support Ukraine. It is likewise clear that we are not at war with Russia."

The common goal, according to the head of the German government, "remains to ensure that Ukraine can effectively defend itself."

"Germany, France and Poland are committed to this together with many allies and partners in Europe and on the other side of the Atlantic. We will not back down from our commitments," Scholz emphasized. He added that the Weimar Triangle (France, Germany, Poland) was "a very important sign of our unity."

Earlier, Scholz repeatedly said that he would do his utmost to ensure that neither Germany nor NATO became a party to the conflict in Ukraine.

The leaders of the Weimar Triangle countries met in Berlin on Friday. The Weimar Triangle is a trilateral format of Germany, France and Poland, created in August 1991. Initially, it aimed to develop cooperation among the three countries and was conceived as a tool to bring Poland closer to the EU and NATO.
