BEIRUT, March 14. /TASS/. Syrian air defenses shot down five drones that were trying to attack military and civilian sites to the north and west of the city of Aleppo, the country’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that was reported by the Al Watan newspaper.
According to the statement, the drones were launched by militants of the extremist group Jabhat al-Nusra (banned in Russia) toward "areas protected by government forces."
Earlier, Syrian artillery destroyed a group of terrorists who infiltrated a valley in the northern Hama province. Strikes also targeted command posts and rear bases of militants in some other areas.
The attacks, which killed and wounded some militants, came in response to repeated ceasefire violations in the northern de-escalation zone.
Clashes with gangs from the extremist group the Islamic State (banned in Russia) took place in eastern Syria in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Homs. According to Al Watan, dozens of terrorists who participated in attacks on military checkpoints and peaceful villages were eliminated during the fighting.
