SKOPJE /Northern Macedonia/, November 30. /TASS/. The member states of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have reached a consensus on appointing Malta to chair the organization in 2024, OSCE Chairman-in-Office and top North Macedonian diplomat Bujar Osmani said.
"On Monday, a consensus was reached on Malta's [2024] chairmanship," he said ahead of a meeting of the organization's foreign ministers in Skopje.
Osmani added that the decision would be formalized later.
Earlier, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela said that his country was ready to take over the OSCE chairmanship in 2024 if Estonia's candidacy is not approved.
The meeting of OSCE foreign ministers is being held in Skopje on November 30 and December 1. The organization's members will have to decide on a candidate for the chairmanship in 2024. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will not support Tallinn's candidacy. Decisions in the organization are made by consensus.
