Netanyahu rejects possibility of handing control over Gaza to Abbas administration

"I do not think the current Palestinian Authority can take on responsibility for the Gaza Strip," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said

TEL AVIV, November 19. /TASS/. The Palestinian Authority headed by Mahmoud Abbas is incapable of taking on the Gaza Strip after the Israeli military operation there, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

"I do not think the current Palestinian Authority can take on responsibility for the Gaza Strip," he told a press conference.

Netanyahu added that he believes it is impossible to hand the Gaza Strip over to Abbas after the Israeli army fought for the enclave. He added that Abbas had not yet condemned the attack on Israel committed by Hamas’ armed wing on October 7.

"His [Abbas’] high-ranking officials celebrate October 7, the Palestinian Authority pays allowances to jailed terrorists, and you know what they teach their children in their schools. Unless these things change, what have we achieved? They were there, we saw what happened. They got Gaza, and what happened after that? They were defeated by Hamas and driven out of there in less than a year. Afterwards, who will be fighting against terrorists, who will ensure security? There has to be changes in this, I insist on it," the Israeli prime minister said.
