Tensions between Budapest and Kiev escalated after Ukraine adopted a law making Ukrainian the country’s official language

BUDAPEST, September 25. /TASS/. Hungary will not support Ukraine at the international level until Kiev gives ethnic Hungarians on its territory their rights back, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told parliament.

Budapest will not support Kiev in any aspect of international relations until Ukraine restores "the former rights for ethnic Hungarians on its territory," Reuters quoted Orban as saying.

Tensions between Budapest and Kiev escalated after Ukraine adopted a law making Ukrainian the country’s official language. According to the Hungarian government, this law curbs the rights of about 150,000 ethnic Hungarians living in Ukraine, mainly in Transcarpathia.
