BRUSSELS, April 6. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping said that he will speak with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky when the conditions and time are right, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told a news conference following her talks with the Chinese leader on Thursday.

"I encouraged President Xi to reach out to President Zelensky," Ursula von der Leyen said. "It was interesting to hear that President Xi reiterated his willingness to speak when conditions and time are right," she added.

In an interview with the Associated Press published late in March, Vladimir Zelensky expressed his readiness to receive Xi Jinping in Ukraine. According to the news agency, he has already sent an invitation.

On March 24, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said that Beijing could not provide any information about a potential telephone conversation between Vladimir Zelensky and Xi Jinping. Adviser to the Ukrainian Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak said, for his part, that a conversation between the two leaders was being planned, but there were certain difficulties in arranging it. This is due to China’s position, he maintained.
