Nationwide mobilization in Ukraine continues, says defense minister

It is reported that candidates for mobilization are selected in accordance with the needs of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Ukraine’s nationwide mobilization plan has not yet been fully carried out and work toward that goal is ongoing, Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said in an interview with Ukrainian news outlet Liga.net on Monday.

"The mobilization plan, in effect since the introduction of martial law and the implementation by parliament of President Vladimir Zelensky's decree introducing martial law, has not yet been completed. Full mobilization is continuing," he said.

According to the minister, candidates for mobilization are selected in accordance with the needs of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"They know precisely the required number of drivers, infantrymen, operators, artillerymen and snipers. The General Staff sets tasks for the recruiting offices: the overall plan and the different categories of specialists. The Defense Ministry only carries out monitoring [of the recruitment process]," Reznikov clarified.

The Ukrainian authorities declared martial law on February 24, 2022, and on the same day Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree ordering a general mobilization starting on February 25, 2022. The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has repeatedly extended Zelensky’s decrees on martial law and mobilization. The most recent extension was on February 7, when the mobilization order was extended for 90 days starting from February 19, when the previous decrees expired.
