US military rents land in Poland near Ukrainian border for personnel camp — radio

The radio station reported that the Americans rented a land plot from a private entrepreneur for five years, with an option to extend the lease for another five years

WARSAW, February 17. /TASS/. US servicemen stationed near the Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport, which sits 90 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, have signed an agreement for a long-term rent of a land plot, Poland’s RMF radio station reported on Friday.

US servicemen were deployed to Jasionka in February 2022 as part of a mission to support NATO allies on the eastern flank. They were 1,700 troops of the US Army 82nd Airborne Division. They are engaged, among other things, in delivering weapons to Ukraine.

The radio station reported that the Americans rented a land plot from a private entrepreneur for five years, with an option to extend the lease for another five years. The plot is already featuring tents and shipping containers that are used to accommodate the US servicemen. It also has a space for cars and armored vehicles.

The US military presence has given a boost to the local real estate market and housing construction. Residential housing is being built for the servicemen and their family members.

A total of about 10,000 US troops are based in Poland, according to government data.
