Naval mine brought by current explodes meters from coastline in Batumi — Georgian TV

There were no immediate reports of casualties

TBILISI, February 13. /TASS/. A naval mine, brought by the current, has exploded on the Black Sea coast in the Georgian city of Batumi, the Rustavi-2 TV channel said on Monday.

The mine went off in the water about 25 meters away from the coastline. Law enforcement officers are examining the scene. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

No comments from the Interior Ministry have followed yet.

Russia’s federal security service FSB said in March 2022 that mines planted by the Ukrainian Navy on the routes of approach to Black Sea ports, after breaking off their cables, might begin to could drift towards the Bosphorus. The number of such mines was not mentioned, but, presumably, there may be hundreds of them. Earlier, Romania and Bulgaria said mines had been found on their coast.
