West to finance radical activities of Belarus’ foreign opposition — Lukashenko

The Belarusian president added that at the moment the opposition offices were allocated scarce money and these funds did not reach all those who have fled abroad

MINSK, February 6. /TASS/.The West will be financing Belarus’ foreign opposition to commit radical actions, including the overthrow and assassination of the president, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Monday.

"Now their pockets are empty. The West is only going to finance concrete events, preferably of a radical nature and not even at the 2020 level: toppling, killing the president and officials. In other words, removing everyone who is a thorn in their side. This is what the West will finance," Lukashenko was quoted by the SB. Belarus Today media outlet as saying when he received a report Prosecutor General Andrey Shved.

Lukashenko noted that foreign opposition was demonstrating its determination to commit various provocations and even serious terrorist attacks in the country. "In Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine, they stand around the perimeter like hyenas snapping their teeth. There are not millions [of opposition supporters] there. Some list 2,000 people, others - up to 4,000, it doesn’t matter how many there are. But these quiet rebels just confirm their determination and their ability to do something here. Right up to the serious acts of terrorism," the head of state said, listening to a report from Prosecutor General Andrey Shved.

According to Lukashenko, the West’s reasoning is as follows: "we will give as much money" as there are people who support opposition. "And they are afraid that some of these people, and God forbid, the majority, will go to Belarus and apply to the commission [for those wishing to return]. Then there's no money either," the president noted.

The Belarusian leader added that at the moment the opposition offices were allocated scarce money and these funds did not reach all those who have fled abroad. "It all goes to the heads of the headquarters and they divide this money. But they want to eat. And what do they have to do? The Ukrainians offer them, the military come and say: ‘Let's go to the front to fight against Russia’," Lukashenko said, "They all shouted: the Kalinovsky regiment [of Belarusians fighting on the side of Ukraine] and so on. There are about a hundred people in this so-called regiment. So they are running around there, ‘great’ colonels and lieutenant colonels, shouting that ‘we are creating a people's liberation army’. But there are only a hundred men in this army, and they are fighting near <...> Artyomovsk."

According to him, among those who are now abroad, "there are those who are fierce," those "who are ready to fight there [in Ukraine] against Russia and here against the Belarusian people".
