DHL confirms 4 employees detained in CAR over Russian House attack case

"We fully cooperate with the local authorities," the company's representative said

BERLIN, February 1. /TASS/. Four DHL employees have been detained in the Central African Republic (CAR) over the Russian House attack case, a representative of the German delivery service confirmed to TASS Wednesday.

"We can confirm that the local authorities have detained four DHL employees after the incident, connected to the delivery of cargo to our maintenance station in Bangui on December 16, 2022," she noted.

"We fully cooperate with the local authorities," the representative said, underscoring that "DHL condemns any form of violence, as well as illegal use of its network."

The detention of the four DHL employees was also confirmed by the Russian Embassy in Bangui.

"This information has been confirmed," a Russian diplomat told TASS Wednesday.

On December 16, the Russian embassy reported that Sytyi was injured after a parcel sent to his name detonated. He was immediately hospitalized with severe injuries. The Russian Foreign ministry called the incident a terror attack. The CAR police investigate the incident.

According to CAR prosecution, the parcel containing an explosive device was sent to Sytyi’s name from Lome, the capital city of Togo, via a DHL office. It was delivered to Bangui by a Kenya Airways plane.

Security agencies have been examining surveillance camera footage along the parcel’s route for the last two months. Requests for additional information about the parcel have been filed by CAR intelligence to Togo and Germany, where the main DHL office is located.

A DHL representative also told TASS that the DHL office in Bangui has temporary suspended its operation since December 16.
