Isfahan attack followed by hostile media campaign — newspaper

On Sunday, Iranian authorities launched a probe into the failed microdrone attack on a facility owned by the Islamic Republic’s top brass, namely an ammunition factory in Isfahan

TEHRAN, January 30. /TASS/. Sunday’s drone attack on an Iranian military facility in Isfahan was followed by a subversive media campaign by enemies of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iran’s most influential and conservative newspaper, Kayhan, reported on Monday.

"The news about an attack on a Defense Ministry factory in Isfahan was followed by rumors in cyberspace about an alleged link between the incident and a fire at a motor oil factory in Tabriz," according to Kayhan.

"Reports also surfaced that explosions were heard in the provinces of Hamandan and Alborz, but local authorities refuted them," the newspaper added.

"It’s worth noting that forces hostile to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have launched an operation in the media aimed at exaggerating the damage and describing the attack as successful," the newspaper writes. "The enemies of Iran from the United States, Ukraine and Israel have been taking turns trying to claim responsibility for this reckless and unsuccessful campaign. The counterrevolutionary media, as always, has been attempting to inflate the incident, but our Defense Ministry said that the attack had caused no major damage to the facility and that all the three microdrones had been downed," it added.

Kayhan referred to Al Arabiya reports citing US officials as saying that the attack on Isfahan had been conducted by the US Air Force and "another country" and that a warehouse for ballistic missiles had been the target.

On Sunday, Iranian authorities launched a probe into the failed microdrone attack on a facility owned by the Islamic Republic’s top brass, namely an ammunition factory in Isfahan, the administrative center of the Isfahan province.

IRNA reported, citing Abbas Moqtadaei, deputy chairman of the National Security Committee at Iran’s Majles (parliament), that a decision had been made to send three delegates to the scene of the incident in Isfahan to prepare a report that would be used for deciding on a response.

Earlier, the Iranian Defense Ministry released a statement about a strike by three unidentified microdrones on a military industry facility on Saturday night. "One of the drones was downed by air defenses, while the other two got caught in defensive traps and exploded," the statement reads. Minor damage could have been done to the roof, the ministry assessed, while the equipment was not affected. Production at the factory is continuing uninterrupted.
