Multipolar world order prevents West from isolating Russia, Swiss government says

According to the Federal Council, "many countries in Africa and the Middle East, as well as in Asia, are unwilling to support the position of one of the world’s poles of power," but expect "to have more room for political maneuvering and deriving economic benefits from that"

GENEVA, October 26. /TASS/. The world has become multipolar, which is why the West has been unable to isolate Russia, Switzerland’s Federal Council (government) said in a report on its policy of neutrality published on Wednesday.

"The world has become multipolar. In this regard, the war in Ukraine partially altered existing regional dynamics, creating new dependencies and new ties, particularly in terms of energy supplies and food security," the report reads.

According to the Federal Council, "many countries in Africa and the Middle East, as well as in Asia, are unwilling to support the position of one of the world’s poles of power," but expect "to have more room for political maneuvering and deriving economic benefits from that." "It also means that Russia’s isolation is not that significant on the global scale as it is in Europe," the Swiss government noted, adding that "it was mostly Western countries who responded with sanctions" to Russia’s actions against the Kiev regime. At the same time, "nine members of the G20 group did not impose sanctions," the report said.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation based on a request for assistance from the heads of the Donbass republics. In response, the West imposed major sanctions on Russia. In addition, Western countries started to provide weapons and military equipment to Kiev, whose total value is currently estimated at billions of dollars.
