Russian MFA slams Macron’s unacceptable remark about Moscow’s role in Karabakh conflict

"We believe that Emmamuel Macron’s statements that Russia is allegedly taking advantage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to destabilize the South Caucasus are outrageous and completely unacceptable," the statement reads

MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements about Russia’s role in the conflict between Baku and Yerevan are unacceptable, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement on Thursday.

"We believe that Emmamuel Macron’s statements that Russia is allegedly taking advantage of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to destabilize the South Caucasus are outrageous and completely unacceptable," the statement reads.

"Our country made a decisive contribution to the signing of a trilateral resolution by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Armenia dated November 9, 2020, which put an end to bloodshed. The peacekeeping force that was deployed to the region in accordance with the agreement is a guarantor of regional security," Zakharova stressed. "Russia is engaged in active efforts to promote a peaceful agenda based on the resolutions that the three leaders adopted on November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021. In particular, steps are being taken to reopen all economic and transport prospects in the South Caucasus, demarcate the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, negotiate a peace treaty, and build dialogue involving the public and the expert community," the Russian diplomat added.

She also emphasized that "Paris’ attempts to drive a wedge between Russia’s close relationship with Azerbaijan and Armenia, who share years-long multifaceted ties with Russia, are bound to fail and will only further weaken France’s authority in the region".
