Materials collected over 8 years to serve as basis for court martial of Ukrainian military

Currently specialists are resolving procedural issues, LPR human rights commissioner Viktoria Serdyukova revealed

LUGANSK, June 7. /TASS/. The materials collected since 2014 will become a foundation for an international court martial of members of Ukrainian armed formations involved in war crimes in Donbass, LPR human rights commissioner Viktoria Serdyukova told TASS on Tuesday.

"We are ready for the court martial since we have been preparing for it during eight years. The materials of criminal cases investigated by the office of the LPR’s Prosecutor General, the investigators of the Ministry of State Security of the LPR will form the foundation of this court martial. These are not only appeals and testimonies by victims or witnesses, these are forensic tests, the inspections of incident sites, various investigative actions which will also become the basis for the evidential foundation during the court martial," she said.

According to the ombudswoman, currently specialists are resolving procedural issues as to which form the court martial will take, where it will be held and which countries will participate in it.

As reported earlier, the authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic plan on holding several intermediate courts martial of members of the Ukrainian armed formations involved in committing war crimes. One of the first ones will be heard over the crimes in Mariupol which will also involve the crimes committed in Volnovakha. The Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) confirmed that it was ready to take part in the court martial of the Ukrainian nationalists from the Azov battalion.
