Tehran vows immediate retaliation to UN nuclear watchdog’s possible anti-Iran steps

Earlier, it was reported that the IAEA may discuss a resolution on Iran at a meeting set to take place on June 6-10

TEHRAN, June 3. /TASS/. Iran will "immediately" respond to any unfriendly steps the United States and three European countries might take at the International Atomic Energy Agency, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Friday.

"Iran will give a proportionate, effective and immediate response to any political steps the US and the three European countries (Britain, Germany, and France) might undertake at the IAEA," the minister said at a meeting with European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell. "IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi visiting Israel ahead of the Board of Governors meeting runs counter to the principle of impartiality and professionalism," the Foreign Ministry’s press office quoted the top Iranian diplomat as saying.

He described the nations’ latest steps as unconstructive and hasty. "They will complicate the negotiations" aimed at reviving the nuclear deal with the Islamic republic, the minister said.

The IAEA may discuss a resolution on Iran at a meeting set to take place on June 6-10, Russia’s envoy to Vienna-based international organizations, Mikhail Ulyanov, said on June 1. The watchdog may point to an insufficient access to Iran’s three nuclear facilities, Ulyanov said.
