North Korea fires three missiles at maximum altitude of 100 km, says Japanese minister

According to Nobuo Kishi, the missiles flew about 350 km and fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone

TOKYO, May 12. /TASS/. North Korea fired three ballistic missiles that flew at a maximum altitude of about 100 km, Japan’s Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi told reporters on Thursday.

"North Korea launched three ballistic missiles eastward. They flew about 350 km, reaching a maximum altitude of around 100 km and fell presumably outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone," Kishi said.

"Such moves by North Korea endanger the world and the security of our country and the entire international community," Japan’s defense chief stressed.

"In the wake of this, we expressed protest via the embassy in Beijing," he added.

Japan’s Coast Guard reported earlier on Thursday that Pyongyang had test-launched a ballistic missile. Owing to this, the office of the Japanese prime minister convened a meeting of the emergency response group for gathering and analyzing information. There have been no reports on damage by now.

Pyongyang has conducted over ten missile tests since the beginning of this year, including a test of an intercontinental ballistic missile prototype. A similar previous test took place on May 7 when North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile from a submarine towards the Sea of Japan.
