Ukraine places ex-MP Kiva on international wanted list for his remarks on Russian TV

The SBI claims that Kiva "called publicly for a violent overthrow of the constitutional order and a seizure of power in Ukraine"

KIEV, May 10. /TASS/. Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has initiated a motion to put Ilya Kiva, a former member of Ukraine’s parliament Verkhovna Rada, on the international wanted list for his statements in Russian TV shows,

"Upon the initiative of investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), former MP Ilya Kiva was put on the international wanted list," the statement reads. "Investigators have established that the former lawmaker, while in Russia, took part in one of the propaganda shows on Russian television."

The SBI claims that Kiva "called publicly for a violent overthrow of the constitutional order and a seizure of power in Ukraine." The bureau added that the former lawmaker had been charged with high treason and encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity as well as the calls for a seizure of power in the country.

On May 10, the SBI completed the Kiva investigation and submitted an indictment to court. He faces up to 15 years in prison, involving the seizure of property.

In March Kiva left Ukraine for Spain and then travelled to Russia. In late April he asked Russian President Vladimir Putin for political asylum and Russian citizenship.
