Over 370 people evacuated from Mariupol in past day - DPR

As many as 28,709 people have been evacuated from the city in this direction since March 5

DONETSK, May 7. /TASS/. The authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) evacuated 373 people, including 43 children, from the city of Mariupol in the past day, the DPR Territorial Defense Center said in a statement on Telegram on Saturday.

"A total of 373 people, including 43 children, were evacuated from Mariupol in the past day, from 8:00 am on May 6 to 8:00 am on May 7. They were taken to an assistance center for evacuees set up by the DPR Emergencies Ministry," the statement reads.

As many as 28,709 people have been evacuated from the city in this direction since March 5.

The battles for Mariupol erupted on February 25. By now, Ukrainian nationalist formations have been driven out of Mariupol’s residential areas and blocked in the Azovstal plant. Russia’s interagency coordination center for humanitarian response said that the Russian Armed Forces would open humanitarian corridors between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm on May 5-7 in order to evacuate civilians from the facility. Russian troops and DPR forces have been opening humanitarian corridors on a regular basis since late March.
