BEIJING, March 23. /TASS/. Russia is an important member of the Group of Twenty (G20), no member country of this format has the right to exclude other states from it, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin told a regular briefing on Wednesday.

"The G20 is an important platform for international economic cooperation," the diplomat said. "Russia is an important participant in it. None of the participants has the right to deprive others of this status."

Wang Wenbin noted that the world economy is currently at a key stage of recovery from the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, so against this background, G20 nations have a special responsibility to maintain economic growth.

At a White House briefing on Tuesday, US National Advisor Jake Sullivan said that Washington intended to consult with allies and partners before making any statements about the possibility of excluding Russia from the G20, but believed that in light of the situation around Ukraine, "it cannot be business as usual for Russia in international institutions.".
