Pentagon’s encouragement of Kiev’s revanchism escalates situation in Donbass — diplomat

Not only such statements provoke tensions along the contact line in Donbass, it also raises serious questions regarding Washington’s adherence to its own statements of readiness to facilitate the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, Maria Zakharova said

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s encouragement of Kiev’s revanchist sentiments increases the tensions at the contact line in Donbass, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

"We noted the aggressive Russophobic tone of the statements made by the head of the Pentagon, who directly supported the revanchist sentiments of Kiev’s party of war. Not only this provokes tensions along the contact line in Donbass, it also raises serious questions regarding Washington’s adherence to its own statements of readiness to facilitate the implementation of the Minsk Agreements," she said.

On October 19, US Secretary of Defense accused Russia of starting the armed conflict in Donbass and obstructing its peaceful resolution during a joint briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrey Taran. In turn, Taran stated Ukrainian Armed Forces’ readiness to protect its country and noted that Kiev hopes for further support of Ukrainian independence from Washington.

Russia repeatedly underscored that it is not a side to the Donbass conflict and hat it consistently advocates full implementation of the Minsk Agreements, which it signed as a mediator.
