KIEV, April 6. /TASS/. Eight lawmakers of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (national parliament) have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Alexander Kachura, a lawmaker with the Servant of the People faction, said on Monday.

"As of today, according to the results of epidemiological tests for the COVID-19 infection, [eight] lawmakers of the Verkhovna Rada have tested positive for this disease," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Two of the infected have already recovered.

According to Kachura, a number of other lawmakers have contacted with those infected, including former head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Vladimir Vyatrovich.

The Verkhovna Rada earlier changed the schedule of its work amid the coronavirus epidemic. All plenary sessions have been banned. However the parliament has gathered for several extraordinary meetings since March 17, when a quarantine was imposed in the country. Rada committees continue to work in the videoconference mode.

As of April 6, a total of 1,319 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Ukraine. Thirty-eight patients have died and 28 have recovered.
