Georgia’s authorities urge opposition to refrain from provocations at polls

On Wednesday, Georgia is holding the runoff presidential election

TBILISI, November 28. /TASS/. Georgia’s Deputy Chairperson of Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili has called on the opposition to refrain from provocations in the runoff presidential election on Wednesday.

"The election authorities and the Interior Ministry - all agencies should be mobilized (as far as I know this is so) to ensure that the law is observed on the election day. All of us should enable our citizens, and I primarily appeal to our opponents, to make their choice calmly. This is our goal and I hope they [the opposition] don’t have another task," Chugoshvili said in a statement broadcast by a number of Georgian TV channels.

On Wednesday, Georgia is holding the runoff presidential election. French-born former Georgian Foreign Minister Salome Zurabishvili, who was supported by the ruling Georgian Dream Party, will face Grigol Vashadze, also a former top Georgian diplomat, of the opposition’s United National Movement. In the first round on October 28, Zurabishvili secured 38.64% of the votes, while Vashadze garnered 37.74% of the votes.
