Search resumes for Malaysia Airlines flight 11 years after it went missing

Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the decision to reopen the investigation was based on research and data from numerous experts

TOKYO, February 25. /TASS/. The search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has resumed in the Indian Ocean 11 years after it disappeared, the Bernama news agency reported.

Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced a fresh effort to find the plane and pledged full support to vessels helping with the effort, according to the report. He thanked the American company Ocean Infinity for its willingness to deploy its ships. The minister said the decision to reopen the investigation was based on research and data from numerous experts.

Malaysian authorities concluded in December 2024 that the investigation should be reopened and began discussing details with Ocean Infinity.

The Boeing 777-200, headed from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, disappeared from radar screens about two hours after takeoff on March 8, 2014. It was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members. In January 2015, Malaysian authorities acknowledged that the plane had crashed and all people on board were killed. No trace of the airliner has been found so far.
