Evacuation from endangered areas of Kherson Region continues, 120,000 evacuated

Many territories of Russia are now accommodating the Kherson Region’s residents

GENICHESK, November 18. /TASS/. Evacuation from a 15-kilometer zone near the Dnieper River in the Kherson Region is currently continuing. As of today, more than 120,000 local civilians have already been evacuated, Alexander Malkevich, a member of Russia’s Civic Chamber and freelance adviser to the acting governor of the Kherson Region, told TASS on Friday.

"The evacuation of civilians from Alyoshki and Golaya Pristan, and, in general, from the left bank [of the Dnieper] continues. In all, about 120,000 have been relocated officially. The evacuation continues. Thousands of others have left to their families on their own by car. We must thank the Kherson journalists for that. The figures are astronomical," Malkevich said.

Many territories of Russia are now accommodating the Kherson Region’s residents.

On October 18, the region’s acting governor, Vladimir Saldo, said that civilians from the right-bank part of the Kherson Region would be moved to the left bank of the Dnieper due to the risk of flooding that might occur should the Ukrainian military hit the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant’s dam. On October 31, Saldo declared that the evacuation zone had been expanded on the left-bank part of the region by 15 kilometers from the Dnieper.
