Crimean court sentences Ukrainian national for fighting in nationalist battalion

According to the FSB, the sentence has yet to take effect and can be appealed

SIMFEROPOL, November 11. /TASS/. The Kievsky District Court in the Crimean capital of Simferopol sentenced Ukrainian national Aider Umerov to six years for participating in the activities of Ukraine’s Noman Celebicihan Battalion (designated as a terrorist organization in Russia), the Federal Security Service (FSB) in Crimea and Sevastopol said in a statement on Friday.

The court found out that Umerov voluntarily joined the illegal armed group in Ukraine in 2016. As a member of the Noman Celebicihan Battalion, he was responsible for furnishing material supplies and food and also served as an armed guard.

Officers from Crimea’s FSB border department detained Umerov in April 2022. A case was opened against him based on Article 208.2 of the Russian Criminal Code (participation in an armed group’s activities not prescribed by federal laws, as well as participation in an armed group’s activities in another country not prescribed by its laws for purposes running counter to Russia’s interests).

According to the FSB, the sentence has yet to take effect and can be appealed.
