Russia ready to help the poorest countries after grain deal suspension — Kremlin

"We can guarantee so far readiness of the Russian side to compensate the shortfall in volumes at our expense," Dmitry Peskov said

MOSCOW, October 31. /TASS/. Russia is ready to compensate the shortfall in grain volumes after suspension of its participation in the grain deal and specific measures are still to be worked out, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev had earlier stated the readiness to compensate the shortfall in volumes for the poorest countries, Peskov noted. "This is a complex and a challenging issue of how we will do this; it is still to be worked out. We can guarantee so far readiness of the Russian side to compensate the shortfall in volumes at our expense," the Kremlin Spokesman said.

"I would to remind on this occasion that the poorest countries accounted only for a minor share of total grain supplied under this deal. All the rest were received by countries other than the poorest ones, located in Europe, Peskov noted.

"Contacts continue," he added, answering a question whether the grain deal is finally closed or not.
