FSB nabs Ukrainian military intelligence agent in Kursk on espionage charges

It is reported that special literature on sniper training was found in the suspect's personal computer

MOSCOW, August 26. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) apprehended a Ukrainian citizen in Kursk who spied for the Ukrainian military intelligence, the FSB press office told TASS on Friday.

"Russia’s Federal Security Service … has foiled the unlawful activity of a Ukrainian citizen residing in Kursk who is an agent of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Department suspected of complicity in gathering and transferring data on an instruction from the foreign intelligence on Defense Ministry facilities for using it against the security of the Russian Federation," the press office reported.

At the place of the suspect’s residence, the FSB operatives seized special technical devices he had received from the Ukrainian intelligence and in his personal computer and mobile phone they found special literature on sniper training, survival, partisan warfare, reconnaissance and subversive activity and the work of special services, it said.

The FSB’s Investigative Department has opened a criminal case against the suspect under article 276 of Russia’s Criminal Code (‘Espionage’) that is punishable with a prison term of 10 to 20 years. The search and investigative measures continue, the FSB said.
