Austrian parliament bans Russia Today broadcasting

It is reported that "this has been done in order to stop the dissemination of fake news" about the Russian operation in Ukraine

VIENNA, March 24. /TASS/. The National Council [lower house of the Parliament] of Austria passed an amendment to the law on audiovisual services in mass media Thursday, banning Russia Today from broadcasting in the republic, the parliament’s press office said.

"Russia Today is now banned. In addition to the government factions of OVP (Austrian People’s Party) and the Greens, this decision was also supported by SPO (Social-Democratic Party of Austria) and NEOS (New Austria) factions. Thus, Austria implements the corresponding part of sanctions against Russia and forbids Austrian providers from broadcasting Russia Today," the statement says.

According to the press office, "this has been done in order to stop the dissemination of fake news" about the Russian operation in Ukraine.
