Hainan wraps up 22nd International Tourist Carnival

It was attended by tens of thousands of people

HAIKOU /China/, January 2. /TASS/. South China's Hainan province successfully held the 22nd International Tourism Island Carnival, which was attended by tens of thousands of people. The Hainan Daily newspaper reported that the closing ceremony of this annual large-scale event was held in the resort town of Sanya.

Local authorities noted that more than 120 cultural and entertaining events were organized during the three weeks of the carnival. Various activities, artistic performances and fairs were held in the largest cities of China’s southernmost province - in the administrative center of Hainan in Haikou, in Sanya, in the industrial city of Danzhou (north-west), in Wenchang (northeast), where one of China's four space launch facilities is located, and in the east of the island - in Qionghai, where every spring the Boao Asia Forum takes place, and in Wenning - one of the leading places for surfing in the country.

In addition, dozens of events took place in many counties of Hainan. Among the most interesting events are the China-ASEAN University Students' Cultural Week, the International Wedding Fair, and the Cigar Festival.

During the carnival, the government supported numerous trade events, took a number of measures to promote tourist sites in the countryside, recreation at the sea, as well as trips to modern medical centers in order to restore health. Special attention is paid to exhibition activities and scientific and technical entertainment projects.

Hainan International Tourism Island Carnivalis held annually in December and is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC in cooperation with the provincial government. The purpose of these comprehensive events is to stimulate consumption and strengthen the international status of the island as one of the most attractive holiday destinations.
