UNITED NATIONS, January 20. /TASS/. Russia mourns for the victims of the Ukrainian conflict, including for Ukrainians, whose plight is that Kiev has rushed to fulfill the West’s task of weakening Russia, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Friday.
"All this time (since 2014 - TASS), people in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republic have been living in permanent fear for their lives under regular shelling attacks by Ukrainian troops," he said at an Arria-formula meeting of the UN Security Council organized by the Russian side. "Each lost life is an irreparable tragedy. We mourn for all victims of this conflict, including for Ukrainians."
"Their tragedy is that the criminal regime, which came to power in 2014, has eagerly rushed to implement the geopolitical tasks set by Western sponsors and patrons to weaken Russia geopolitically, having sacrificed its own citizens as cannon fodder, pushing them toward a fratricidal war "until the last Ukrainian," while the West is only rubbing its hands when testing new weapons, concurrently getting rid of old ones and counting the profits of its military corporations," Nebenzya said.
Foreign media footage of Ukrainian strikes on civilian facilities in Donbass, including videos of what was happening in Donbass before February 2022, were shown during the meeting.
