Russian defense ministry granted temporary exclusive use of water zones in Far East

The other document grants similar rights for a portion of the Golden Horn Bay in the Sea of Japan

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed a decree to grant temporary exclusive use of areas in two Russian Far Eastern bays, according to documents uploaded to the country’s database of legislative information on Tuesday.

One decree grants "20-year exclusive use of a water area in the Promezhutochnaya Bay, a part of the Ussuri Bay in the Sea of Japan’s Peter the Great Gulf <…> for the purpose of ensuring the country’s defense and security."

The other document grants similar rights for a portion of the Golden Horn Bay in the Sea of Japan, next to Russia’s Far Eastern metropolis of Vladivostok.

The transfer of those areas to the Russian Defense Ministry will be possible under a series of conditions listed in an annex to those documents.

For example, the designated areas cannot be used for other purposes, such as recreation or fishing. Also, the ministry was obliged to keep hydraulic structures in those areas in a good state of repair. The document also prohibits activities that can affect the water body’s natural state or pollute the environment.
